The Chesterton girls basketball team opened the season on a 19-0 run and never looked back in picking up a 61-5 non-conference victory over East Chicago Central on Tuesday night.

“Everybody got a chance to play,” Chesterton coach Jack Campbell said. “Especially in a year like this, it’s a day-to-day thing. Everyone is going to get a chance at some point.”

The Trojans put away any doubt by outscoring the Cardinals 19-0 in the second quarter to build a 40-2 halftime edge. Emma Schmidt scored all of her game-high 16 points in the first half.

Nalani Malackowski hit a pair of third quarter triples and finished with 13 points as Carley Balas and Sophia Raffin each added eight points.

Rounding out the scoring were Emma Pape (5 points), Abi Drew (4 points), Ciara Bonner (3 points), Emily Richardson (2 points) and Liz Pokorney (2 points).

Chesterton returns to the court on Friday night when they host DAC foe Valparaiso. The JV game is set for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
