The woman who died
Tuesday night in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 12 in Westchester
Township has been identified.
After deadline on
Wednesday, Porter County Coroner Cyndi Dykes identified the victim as Sarah
Jensen, 30, of Michigan City. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle and
was pronounced dead at the scene, Dykes said.
According to the
Porter County Sheriff’s Police, at approximately 9 p.m. Jensen was eastbound
on U.S. 12 when, 1100 feet east of Tremont Road, she lost control, left the
roadway to the south, and struck the end of the guardrail. Jensen’s 2011
Chevrolet Avalanche then rolled over an unknown number of times before
coming to rest upright against the guardrail.
The PCSP said that
Jenson appears to have been “traveling at a high rate of speed, due to the
yaw marks in the roadway.”
Jensen was wearing
both lap and shoulder restraints at the time of the crash, the PCSP added.
The Chesterton and
Porter fire departments, the Indiana State Police, and Northwest EMS
(formerly Porter Regional Hospital EMS) all responded to the scene.
