A Jackson Township
man was killed on Saturday in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 6 in
Jackson Township, Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris is reporting.
The victim was
identified as Nathan T. Legler, 19.
At 3:55 a.m. Legler
was eastbound on U.S. 6, just west of Westville, when his 2004 Infiniti
“diverted from the roadway to the north” and struck a utility pole on the
driver’s side door, Harris said.
“Evidence at the
scene shows Legler lost control of the vehicle on the wet pavement and went
left of center,” the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.
Legler was
extricated from the vehicle by the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire
Department but was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force injuries,
Harris said.
Legler was the
vehicle’s sole occupant.
The results of a
routine toxicology screen are pending.
