The Indiana State Police trooper injured on Wednesday after a suspected drunk driver struck his squad car on I-80/90 in Lake County is expected to make a full recovery, the ISP is reporting.

Trooper Corey Adam was sitting in his squad car shortly after midnight, parked in front of a disabled vehicle in the left lanes of westbound I-94 at the 7.3 mile marker, when his squad car was struck at high speed by an SUV driven by Cameron D. Geweniger, 30, of Wheaton, Ill.

The emergency lights on Adams’ squad car and on those of two other troopers at the scene were fully activated at the time of the crash and around 15 emergency flares had also been lit, police said.

“Although (Adam) suffered serious injuries, he is expected to make a full recovery,” police said late on Wednesday. “Please continue to keep Trooper Adam in your thoughts as he goes through the recovery process.”

Geweniger was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated, resisting law enforcement, and reckless driving, and was transported to Lake County Jail.
