Service and Visitation January 18 for Charles A. Grismer, Sr.

Charles A. Grismer, Sr., 75, of Greenwood, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 11, 2020.

He was born on April 24, 1944, in East Chicago, Ind., son of the late Homer and Martha (Schoppel) Grismer.

Charles graduated from Chesterton High School in 1963. He was an Eagle Scout and volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America. Charles was a painting and construction contractor for the majority of his working life. He was also a member of the Sertoma Club in Greenwood, Ind. Charles was dedicated to his family and sustained by his faith in the Lord. He enjoyed reading historical fiction, watching Westerns, fishing, discussing politics, inventing gadgets, and especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Charles married Karen Thompson on Aug. 5, 1967. They raised six children who attended church weekly at Christ United Methodist in Greenwood, Ind., where he participated in many activities, including the Methodist Men’s Club, Sunday School, and Bible study.

He is survived by his six children, Jani (Jeff) Dahlin of Mason City, Iowa, Andy (Melinda) Grismer of Frankfort, Nancy (Mike) Hecox of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Amy (Mark) Wortinger of Greenwood, David (Candice) Grismer of Whiteland, and Sarah Grismer of Indianapolis; twenty-two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, David (Patti) Grismer of Chesterton; and nephews Mike (Anna) Grismer, of Valparaiso, and John Connard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karen (Thompson) Grismer; and his niece Jennifer Grismer.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020, from 1:30-3:30 p.m., immediately followed by a Memorial Service at 3:30 p.m. Both will be held at New Hope Church, 5307 W Fairview Rd, Greenwood, IN 46142. Charles will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greenwood, IN.

Memorial contributions may be made to the ministry of Living Free of Mason City, IA., 124 W. State St., Mason City, IA., 50401.

Arrangements are in the care of Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care, Indianapolis.
