Services Saturday for Barrie La'Vonnie Jones

Barrie La’Vonnie Jones, age 57 of Gary, IN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on April 18, 1962, in Evanston, IL, to William and Susie (Taylor) Hicks.

On May 29, 1982, in Minneapolis, MN, she married the love of her life, G. Thomas Jones, Sr., who survives in Gary, IN.

She is preceded in death by sister, Donnie La’Fawn.

She is survived by her loving children: Grady (Portia) Jones of Tacoma, WA, Candice (Tyrell) Anderson of Gary, IN, Brittny Jones of Portage, IN, and daughter-in-love, Rochelle Jones of Dallas, TX; her loving grandchildren: Amare, Mikiya, Genesis, Elijah and August.

She is also survived by her parents, William and Susie (Taylor) Hicks Sr., her mother-in-law, Gladys LaBoy; and by her siblings: Walter Hicks, Chauncey “Duane” (Sandra) Hicks, William Hicks Jr., Kenneth Hicks, and Timothy (Thao) Hicks; and by her sisters: Deidre Hicks, Sanquinita Hicks, and Tamisha (Phillip) Reid.

In addition to being a treasured teacher, Barrie was also an avid reader, a foodie who was never scared to try a new cuisine, and a devoted grandmother who enjoyed spending quality time with her beloved grandchildren.

Barrie was a true woman of God who lived her faith through daily prayer and worship.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at 11 a.m., at Christ United Methodist Church: 201 West Ridge Road, Gary, IN, 46408.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 24, 2019, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street, Chesterton, IN.

The family will also receive friends on Friday, October 25, 2019, from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m.. at Christ United Methodist Church, 201 West Ridge Road, Gary, IN 46408, with a family hour from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Burial will follow at her family cemetery in Greensboro, Alabama.

Memorial donations may be given to the Early Learning Ministry at Christ United Methodist Church, 201 West Ridge Road, Gary, IN 46408.
