Roger Clark
Schlobin, 72, passed away on April 25, 2017, at Vidant Medical Center,
Greenville, NC.
The family will
receive friends Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Roger, son of the
late James and Virginia Schlobin of Port Richey, FL, believed in the
transformative power of education. He taught college English courses for 40
plus years and was a professor emeritus of Purdue University North Central
and a retired visiting assistant professor at East Carolina University. He
earned a Ph.D. in medieval literature and languages from Ohio State
University. He is a past editor of The Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts.
During his teaching career, he cultivated many lasting friendships with
faculty and students.
Roger enjoyed time
with his family, friends, and beloved feline buddies. He also enjoyed
tinkering with “Baby,” his 1977 Datsun 280Z car, and he was the founding
president of the Emerald City Z Club in Greenville.
Along with his
parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Susan McGee.
He is survived by
his wife of 17 years, Peggy Novotny, of Greenville; stepchildren; Jenna
Stewart and her husband, Douglas, of Noblesville, IN; Claire Novotny Merritt
and her husband, Sean, of Dallas, GA; Elizabeth Bromberg and her husband,
Jason, of Greenville; and Jacob Novotny of Wilson, N.C.; and step
grandchildren, Julian Merritt, Paul Stewart, and Laurel Jane Stewart. He is
also survived by his nephew and niece, Jesse and Eleanor March-McGee of
Eureka, CA.
