Memorial Service Saturday for George Howard Shelbourne

George Howard Shelbourne, 89 of Chesterton, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Franciscan Health of Michigan City.

He was born December 7, 1927, in East Chicago, IN, to his parents Robert Shelbourne and Edythe Plumbe Shelbourne, both of whom preceded him in death.

George is survived by his wife Phyllis Menard Shelbourne of Chesterton, with whom he would be married for 70 years on August 30. Also surviving are his children: Alan (Rebecca Lynn) Shelbourne of Oklahoma, Ronald (Catherine) Shelbourne of Demotte, Nancy (John) Wagner of Valparaiso.: Grandchildren: Brett (Jim) Opaleski, Erik (Amy) Shelbourne, Aaron (Lisa) Shelbourne, Evan (Nicole) Shelbourne, Whitney (CJ) Parsons, Cecile (Seth) Johnson and Matthew Wagner and twelve great-grandchildren. George was preceded in death by all his siblings.

George was an active member of St. Francis Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #595 in East Chicago, a Shriner and a member of the American Legion Post #170. He was a proud Navy Veteran who served his country in World War II. His favorite hobbies were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., there will be a Memorial Service at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 237 E Co. Rd. 1200 N, Chesterton. Memorials may be given to St. Francis Episcopal Church.
