Service Wednesday for Larry Murphy, age 77

Larry Murphy, age 77 of Chesterton, IN, passed away Sunday, May 8th, 2016.

He was born on Nov. 13th, 1938 in Mankato, MN to Neal and Roberta (Pew) Murphy.

Larry is survived by his wife, Joan Murphy of Chesterton; son, Michael (Jane) Murphy of Riverside, IL; daughters, Kathleen Murphy of St. Paul, MN and Anne (Joe) Murphy-Kline of Battleground, IN; sister, Elaine Murphy of Yuma, AZ; grandchildren, Alex Murphy, Christopher, Robert, Elizabeth & Jonathan Murphy, Raymond and Adele Kline; several nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom Murphy; and sister, Patricia Frost.

Larry did his undergraduate work and received his Master’s Degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. He worked for over 30 years at The Elkhart Truth retiring as the Editor of the Editorial Page. Larry was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton where he was a Cantor. Throughout his life, Larry was a music lover, avid gardener, knowledgeable reader and active volunteer.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, May 11th, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd, Chesterton, IN 46304 with Father James Meade officiating. Arrangements made with Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Chesterton, IN.

Memorial donations in Larry’s honor may be made to several organizations which he supported; The Valparaiso Boys and Girls Club, 354 Jefferson St., Valparaiso, IN 46383, The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, 2248 W 35th Ave., Gary, IN 46408, or VNA Hospice, 2404 Valparaiso St., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
