Gene Adamczyk, age
79 of Chesterton, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at the VNA
Hospice Center in Valparaiso.
He was born on
March 17, 1936, in New Castle, PA, to Walter and Tatiana Adamczyk, both of
whom preceded him in death.
Gene is survived by
his church family and by his cousins in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Gene was a member
of Saint Elizabeth's Orthodox Church in Chesterton, where he was the choir
director. He attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Thereafter, he
worked at River Forest Community Schools from 1958 until 1991, where he
taught Russian to middle and high school students, and later music to
elementary school students. He also composed and translated music for the
Orthodox Church. Gene will be fondly remembered for hunting for mushrooms
and his beautiful Ukrainian eggs. Gene taught so many students, friends and
church members how to create these lovely egg treasures. He will be missed
by so many. May his memory be eternal.
Funeral services
will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth's
Orthodox Church, 545 W. Indiana Ave., Chesterton, Indiana, with Father
William Bass officiating.
On Friday at 7 p.m.
at Saint Elizabeth's Orthodox Church, there will be a Panikhida Service.
After the service, friends are invited to gather until 8:30 p.m. at the
church.
Burial will take
place at the Monastery of Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk Cemetery, in Waymart, PA.
Memorial donations
may be given to Saint Elizabeth's Orthodox Church.
