Clara Lottie Nelson dies at age 85

Clara Lottie Nelson, age 85 of Chesterton, Ind., passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Valparaiso Care and Rehabilitation Center, Valparaiso, Ind.

She was born on October 27, 1927 in East Chicago, Ind., to Mieczslaw and Stanislawa Obremska Engelhart, both of whom preceded her in death.

Clara is survived by her children Thomas (Patricia) Woods of LaPorte, Ind., David (Sue) Woods of Sandwich, Ill., Robert Nelson of Chesterton and Linda Markos of Michigan City, Ind.; two grandchildren, Tommy Woods of Lafayette, Ind., and Melisa Enriquiz of Chesterton, and three great-grandchildren Jace and Kyler Woods and Baily Enriquiz. She leaves behind her dear friend and companion Tom Wiseman of Chesterton.

Clara was preceded in death by her husbands Charles Woods and Robert Nelson, brother Leo Engelhart and sisters Deloris Cosmis, Lorraine Kozlowski and Florence Cigler.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where she was a greeter and also helped with the funeral lunches. She enjoyed walking, joining 5Ks and events sponsored by St. Patrick’s. Clara was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed country music, especially Elvis and was a dedicated Bingo player. Clara was a member of the American Legion Post 170 and the Women of the Moose Chapter 846.

There will be a Memorial Service at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton, IN.
