Robert Block services Saturday

Robert J. Block, age 68 of Chesterton, Ind., passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014 in Valparaiso, Ind.

He was born July 25, 1945, in Michigan City, Ind., to Robert R. and Catherine M. (Shermak) Block.

He was married on March 30, 1968, to Darla McCorkel, who survives of Chesterton.

Robert is also survived by his mother, Catherine Block; son, James (Dawn) Block of Wayzata, Minn.; daughter, Tricia (James) Riddle of Quakertown, Penn.; grandchildren, Andrew and Elise Block, Justin and Sarah Riddle, and sisters, Judith Avery and Barbara Shreve.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Block.

Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from the steel mills as an Industrial Engineer. After his retirement, he was a Math Instructor at Ivy Tech and worked for Westchester Public Library in the Serials Department. He was a member of the stamp club in Michigan City, Ind., served on the Chesterton Adult Learning Center Board and the Jackson Township Advisory Board for many years. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, fishing, reading, cooking and playing with his grandchildren. Robert enjoyed living life to the fullest and appreciated good conversation.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind., with Pastor Michael Eddy officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, January 3, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.EE-FH.com
