Lois Nicholson services Wednesday

Lois Nicholson, age 92 of Chesterton, passed away on July 4, 2014, at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, Ind.

She was born on June 16, 1922, in Golden Gate, Ill., to Philip and Nelle Williamson-Spitler, both of whom preceded her in death.

On May 2, 1948, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, she married Glenn D. Nicholson, who survives in Chesterton.

Lois is also survived by her children: James A (Prescott) Nicholson of St. Cloud, Minn., Diane (Russell) Harper, Thomas (Vera) Nicholson, and William (Marilyn) Nicholson, all of Chesterton; grandchildren Mary Nicholson and Neal Nicholson, of Chesterton, and Tanner Nicholson of St. Cloud, Minn. Also, sister-in-law Fern Anderson, of Chesterton, survives along with many nieces and nephews.

Lois was also preceded in death by her grandson, Martin William and her two brothers, Thomas D. Spitler and Orville B. “Budd” Spitler.

Lois was a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chesterton and was a member of the LCW for many years. She was a charter member of the Pine Township Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting dollies, making sure her family each had something made especially for them. Lois worked crossword puzzles daily and read from the Readers Digest books. She volunteered her time to the Board of Elections, serving on the polls. She was an ardent Cub’s fan.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 W 1100 N, Chesterton, Ind., with Pastor Thelma Cobbler officiating. Burial will follow at the Furnessville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton.
