Clarence Joseph Funk, age 61, of Chesterton, Ind., formerly of Chicago,
Ill., passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the University of Chicago
Hospital.
He was born August 21, 1951 in Hammond, Ind., to Chester Funk and Helen
Supergan Funk.
On May 25, 1985, Clarence married Nancy Jo Hetzel.
He is survived by wife, Nancy Jo (Hetzel) Funk; children, Christopher Funk (Fiance
Lindsey Andershock), Kevin Funk and Brittany Funk all of Chesterton, IN;
brothers, Ron (Theresa) Funk of Midloathian, Ill., and Len (Karen Krantz)
Funk of Dyer, Ind.; sister, Fran (Joe) Lund of Des Plaines, Ill.; beloved
pets; dog, Meme and cat, Doodles.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Clarence was a loving husband, father, and friend to many. He retired from
U.S. Steel in management after 35 years. He was currently working for Tube
City. He was influential in the East Side Little League, coaching boy’s
baseball and girl’s softball. He was a fireworks fanatic, an avid sports
fan, a wonderful chef and a true Chicagoan at heart.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at 11:00
a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, Ind.,
46304.
Visitation will be held directly at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of
service at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations may be made to the
University of Chicago Hospital or Gift of Hope.
