Beth Shubair (nee
Chellberg) of Chesterton, Ind., passed away at LaPorte Hospital in LaPorte,
Ind., on February 20, 2014. She was 72.
Beth was born in
Gary, Ind., on September 18, 1941, to Arthur and Dorothy (Borg) Chellberg.
Beth is survived by
her son David of Chesterton, daughters Jeana (Ryan) Tonk and Julie (Justin)
Camer of Michigan City; grandchildren Grace Estill-Shubair of Valparaiso,
Ind., and Audrey Camer of Michigan City, Ind.; sister Karen (Robert) Petry
of Norman, of Oklahoma; nieces and nephews and countless friends.
She was preceded in
death by her parents, daughter Amy Shubair, and son Jason Shubair.
She was a lifelong
resident of the Porter and Chesterton area and graduated from Chesterton
High School in 1959. Beth married her ex-spouse, Awni Shubair, in 1970 and
from that union came children Amy, David, Jeana, Jason, and Julie. After
attending Indiana University, Beth worked for Fortune Magazine in Chicago
before putting her career on hold to stay at home and raise her children.
For the past eighteen years, she was employed with the Purdue Cooperative
Extension Office in Valparaiso. Beth was a lifelong member of Augsburg
Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed volunteering at the Chellberg Farm;
telling stories of her Swedish ancestors and community who lived in the
Bailytown, Chesterton, and Porter areas; and most importantly spending time
with cherished family and friends. Beth was an absolutely devoted mother who
was always committed and nurturing to those close to her.
Funeral services
will be held Thursday, February 27, at 11 a.m. at Augsburg Evangelical
Lutheran Church, 100 N Mineral Springs Rd., Porter with Pastor Erik Bernth
officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.
The family will
receive friends on Wednesday, February 26, at the White-Love Funeral Home,
525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton from 4 to 8 p.m.
