Patricia Ayala service set for Wednesday

Patricia S. Ayala, age 77, of Chesterton, Ind., passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012.

She was born December 13, 1934 in Johnston City, Ill., to Franklin and Mamie (Shannon) Davis, both of whom preceded her in death.

Patricia married Ignatius Ayala, who survives of Chesterton, Ind.

She is also survived by her son, John (Deirdre) Ayala of Porter; daughters, Christina Harris of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Hope Ayala of Fishers, Ind.; brother, John Davis of South Holland, Ill.; sister, Mary Lou (Hughston) McConnell of Dyer, Ind.; grandchildren, John Ayala Harris, Hannah and Hailey Ayala, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Davis and sister, Marjorie Wenzel.

Patricia was a graduate of Thornton Fractional North High School in Calumet City, Ill., and continued her education to obtain her associate degree in accounting. She worked as a bookkeeper and loved reading, crossword puzzles, traveling and enjoyed sports.

She was President of the Miller Girls Softball League, a Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother and a preschool teacher at the Miller YWCA.

She was a Chesterton resident for the past 16 years and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, Ind., with Father James Meade officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Chesterton.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind.
