James Lawrence Hubbard, age 89 of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away Saturday,
August 25, 2012 at his home.
He was born November 8, 1922 in Blasdell, New York, to Lynn and Louise
(Weiss) Hubbard, both of whom preceded him in death.
James was married to Virginia (Grant) Hubbard, who also preceded him in
death.
James is survived by his sons, Douglas Hubbard of Chesterton, Ind., Richard
(Jacqueline) Hubbard of Madison, Wis., Matthew (Theresa) Hubbard of
Sarasota, Fla., and William Hubbard of Tallahassee, Fla.; daughter, Virginia
“Ginger” (Tim) Scott of Chesterton, Ind.; sister in law, Gertrude Hubbard of
West Senaca, New York; and grandchildren, Erika Hubbard of San Diego, Calif.
and Kelsey and Logan Scott of Chesterton, Ind.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Blanche, Ruth and Eleanor; and
brothers, Sylvester, Elmer and Joseph.
James was a graduate of Blasdell High School and attended the University of
Buffalo. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force, serving during World War
II. James was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was also a member
of the American Legion Post 170.
He was a loving father, grandfather and father in law, and was also a
die-hard Trojans fan. James retired from Bethlehem Steel, where he worked as
a Machinist. He enjoyed spending his retirement traveling the country.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, September 1, at 10:00 a.m.
at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, Ind., with
Father James Meade officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 31, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Edmonds
& Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind., with an American
Legion service at 6:00 p.m. and a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Cremation will
be performed by Heritage Crematory, Portage, Ind.
