Chesterton resident Martha Lou Adams, 78, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011 at V.N.A.
Hospice Center in Valparaiso.
She was born on
Feb. 10,1932, in Lafayette County, Miss., the daughter of Lonnie and Lora
(Low) Jenkins, who preceded her in death.
On Oct. 27,
1947, in Marks, Miss., she married Joe Fred Adams, who on Jan. 1, 2007, also
preceded her in death.
She is survived
by her children, Joe F. (Nancy) Adams Jr. of Westville, Larry P. (Barb)
Adams of Valparaiso, Shirley (Mike) Beile of Valparaiso, and Sheliah
(Darrell) Swickard of Chesterton; her grandchildren, Chris (Laura) Swickard,
Adam Swickard, Devon (Steve) Elliott, Dawn (Russell) Schreib, Chad Beile,
Craig, Brian and Jason Adams, and Barb’s children Ruth and Mike; twelve
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Shirley
(George) Terral of Percy, Ark.
She is preceded
in death by her siblings Maria, Sonny, Zola, and Mary, her twin sister.
Martha was the
head cook for the Duneland School Corporation for 27 years and since 1968 a
member of the Portage Missionary Baptist Church. Painting, crocheting,
bowling, and gardening in her flower garden were her favorite past times,
and Martha and her husband Joe enjoyed camping and fishing.
Funeral
services, Pastor Jeff Sheffee officiating, are scheduled for 11 a.m.
Thursday, Feb. 10 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St. in
Chesterton. Burial will take place in Graceland Cemetery.
The family will
receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday Feb., 9, at White-Love.
Memorials may be
given to V.N.A. Hospice in memory of Martha.
