Richard Murphy service set

Richard Arlen Murphy of LaPorte passed away following a long illness at 9:03 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2011, at University Indiana Health LaPorte Hospital. He was 67.

He was born July 31, 1943 in Mather, Pa., to Patrick and Agnes (Connor) Murphy. He just celebrated 44 years of marriage to Donna (Hilliard) Murphy, who survives.

Also surviving are daughter, Pamela Kay Murphy of LaPorte; brothers William Murphy of Rices Landing, Pa. and George Murphy (wife Nancy) of Jefferson, Pa.; sister Judy Shaffer of Jefferson, Pa.; grandchildren Kevin Lee Arlen Murphy (Sarah), Christina Marie Cooper, Katarina C. Cooper, Corey Matthew Wayne Cooper, Stephen Rose and Zachary Cooper; and one great-grandchild, Sophia Christeen Murphy.

Preceding in death were his father, Patrick; mother, Agnes; brothers, Patrick Jr., John, James and Charles; and sisters, Kathryn Gordon and Gwen Peyton; and daughter, Deborah Lynn (Murphy) Cooper.

Richard was retired from ArcelorMittal Steel. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Jefferson, Pa. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era in Okinawa, Japan. Richard was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home on Friday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jo Ellyn Chadwick officiating. A Military Service will be conducted at the cemetery by the LaPorte Honor Guard. Cremation will take place. Burial of Ashes will follow in the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
