Pearl Saffran service set for Thursday

Pearl E. Saffran, age 94, of Chesterton, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011.

She was born July 1, 1917 in Valparaiso, Ind., to John and Betsy Targgart.

She was married to Allen Saffran, who preceded her in death.

Pearl is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Elizabeth) Saffran and Mark Saffran, both of Chesterton; daughter, Joyce (Thomas) Beck of Chesterton; brother, Jack (Mickey) Targgart of Duluth, Minn.; sister, Henrietta Brooks of North Carolina.

Also surviving, grandchildren Alan (Tina) Beck, Annette (Christopher) Feerst; Jill (Mark) Yarosz, Brian Saffran, Julia Saffran and Sarah Saffran and great-grandchildren, Katherine Feerst, Harrison Feerst, Jacob Beck, Nolan Beck, Andrew Beck, Ryan Carter, Lauren Yarosz and Luke Yarosz.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pearl formerly worked as a Secretary for U.S. Steel and as a Clerk for the Town of Chesterton Water and Utility Department.

She was a member of Chesterton United Methodist Church and was formerly active with her church circle. Pearl was also a member of the Women of the Moose.

Funeral service will be held at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Christine Newman-Jacobs officiating.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
