John Bennett, 77, dies in Florida

Former Chesterton resident John “Lynn” Bennett died on April 19, 2011 in Weston, Florida. He was 77 years old.

He was born on August 5, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois, to George and Constance Bennett, who both preceded him in death.

He was a 1951 graduate of Chesterton High School and attended Indiana University. He was a member of the Army and served two years active duty and four years in the Reserves. He was treasurer of Randolph Box and Label Company, a family owned business in Chicago, Ill.

On October 29, 1960, he married Norma Alice Kleberg, who survives in Stuart, Fla.

Bennett was an active member of the Chesterton Plan Commission for 12 years. After retirement, he and his wife relocated to Stuart, Florida. He was active in the Cedar Pointe Condo Association where he served on the Board of Directors and was the current President.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George Bennett.

He is also survived by sons Mark (Brenda) of Bradenton, Fla., Keith (Michelle) of Chesterton and daughter Candi McNeal (Jeff) of Huntley, Ill.

His great love was for his grandchildren, who survive him; Katelyn Pavloff and John Bennett of Bradenton, Fla.; Noah, Hannah and Sarah Bennett of Chesterton and Annika and Kellen McNeal of Huntley, Ill.

A luncheon will be held in Chesterton at a later date.
