Charles V. Lauerman dies at age 82

Charles Vincent Lauerman, 82, of DeMotte, Indiana, died Sunday, December 25, 2011 at home with his family following an extended battle with Parkinson's disease.

He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Bonnie (Chapman) Lauerman; four daughters, Karen (Bob) Vater of Cleveland, Wisc., Susan (Fred) VanderMeer of Demotte, Patricia (Bill) Forster of Valparaiso, Bridget (Greg) Martinson of Chesterton; his son, Kevin Lauerman of Apex, North Carolina; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Charles was born and raised in Hammond, Ind., the son of Jerome and Barbara (Spanier) Lauerman, Chuck worked in his family's grocery store as a young boy. After graduating from Hammond Technical School, he worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for 35 years as a power engineer. He retired in 1985 and moved to Inverness, Florida, where he lived for 20 years before he moved to DeMotte in 2007.

Chuck was a member of AT&T Pioneers.

He chose to have his body donated to Indiana University.

A memorial service will be held at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in DeMotte, Ind., on Wednesday, December 28 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the National Parkinson's Foundation.
