Barbara Ellen Stocks dies at 82

Barbara Ellen Stocks, 82, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 7:36 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at her home.

She was born May 5, 1929, in Porter County, Indiana the daughter of Nellie Ton Delacy. She married Vernon Shelby “Verne” Stocks on June 14, 1947 in Porter, Indiana. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2010.

Survivors include three sons, David (Ronda) Stocks and Mark Stocks both of North Vernon, Ind., Thomas “Wings” (Ani) Stocks of Yorkville, California; two brothers, Robert (Judy) Betts of Chesterton and Allen (Barbara) Delacy of San Diego, Calif.; three sisters, Linda (Bill) Papineau of Naples, Florida, Marcia Grattenthaler of Michigan City and Annette Nancy (Ed) Toth of Willow Wick, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Tricia (Steve) Mintner of Newburg, Ind., Dawn Stocks and April (Andy) Schultz both of Evansville, Ind., Kasey Stocks and Brett (Eugenia) Stocks both of Santa Cruz, California, Shawn and Ryan Kidwell of North Vernon, Ind.; four great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, and her adopted parents, Marsene and Louella Betts; a brother, Bobby Delacy and a sister, Carolyn Sarpa.

She worked as the office manager for S&S Van Lines in LaPorte, Ind., for several years. She taught swimming at the YMCA in Valparaiso. She was a member of the LaPorte High School PTA, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte, Florida, First Lutheran Church in Columbus, Indiana and Bethany Lutheran Church in LaPorte. She enjoyed swimming, poetry, golf, walking, roller skating and traveling.

A Memorial Service for Barbara, her husband Vernon, and her sister Carolyn will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the First Lutheran Church, 3600 25th Street, Columbus, Indiana 47203 with the Pastors Larry Isbell and Edward Boone officiating.

Internment Service for them will be on September 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. (central time) at the Carmel Cemetery in LaPorte County, Indiana with Pastor Dennis Meyers officiating.

Local arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon, Indiana.
