Service set for Mary Ruth Obermeier

Mary Ruth Obermeier of Jackson Township passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 at her home under hospice care. She was 83.

She was born in Jackson Township to Lawrence S. Anderson and Olga Regina Anderson. On May 21, 1949 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chesterton, she married Gustave Obermeier of Chicago, who preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 2001.

She is survived by sister, Olga R. Korthals of Chesterton; sister-in-law Eloise Anderson of Boise, Idaho; sister-in-law Mary “Evelyn” Anderson of Austin, Texas; and nieces and nephews Debra Anderson, Richard Anderson (wife Vicki), Paul Anderson (Sue), Philip Anderson (Barbara), Mary Lou Anderson, Rajeanne L. Korthals, John L. Korthals (Susan), James T. Korthals Jr. (Deidre), and Victoria Nicholson; 17 great nieces and nephews; and four great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers Carl Anderson, Douglas L. Anderson, William W. Anderson, Lawrence S. Anderson, John A. Anderson, nephew Mark Anderson, sister-in-law Jenny Anderson, and brother-in-law James T. Korthals, Sr.

Mary was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Chesterton for her entire life. She served as a member of the Altar Guild and the Bell Choir. She worked for many years as part of the family business, Anderson Orchards in Jackson Township. She graduated from Jackson High School and never missed a reunion with her brother John and sister Olga. Mary was a loving and caring aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary or special event. Mary made the best apple pies in Jackson Township and taught many of her nieces and nephews the secret. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. at Behtlehm Lutheran Church, 2050N 1100N, Chesterton with the Rev. Jane Aicher officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. The family will receive freinds from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton.
