Services set for Helen J. Anton

Dune Acres resident Helen J. Anton, 92, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus.

She was born on Feb. 24, 1917, the daughter of James and Isabell (O’Brien) Gorman, who preceded her in death.

On Jan. 30, 1937, in Valparaiso, she married Michael R. Anton Sr., who on Nov. 12, 2006, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Michael R. (Nancy) Anton Jr. of Chesterton; daughters, JoAnne (Bruce) Smith of Valparaiso and Virginia Anton-York of Chicago; grandchildren, William S. (Jene) Murray, Karen (Roger) Karmolinski, Kathleen (Tom) Durand, John (Judi) Lowery, Sheila (David) Sahs, Janet (Andrew) Narbutis, Michael (Julie) Anton III, Julie (Chris) Braveman, Douglas (Tiffany) Anton, James Anton, Megan (Richard) Levendowski, and Robert Anton Jr.; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Anton; her brother, Robert Gorman; and grandson, Joseph York.

Also surviving are her caregivers, Mary Griffin, Christina Griffin, Lana Bivel, and Patsy Griffith, to whom the family wishes to express its heartfelt appreciation for all they did for Mrs. Anton.

Helen was an area resident since 1957, coming from Chicago. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a former member of the Westchester Gardeners Club and was active in many Dune Acres events and activities.

A Mass of Christian Burial, Father James Meade officiating, is scheduled for 12 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road in Chesterton. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway in Chesterton, with a wake service scheduled for 7 p.m. at the funeral home. www.EE-FH.com
