Services set for Carl Otto

Chesterton resident Carl Malcom Otto, 60, died Monday, Oct. 26. 2009.

He was born Jan. 18, 1949, in East Chicago, the son of William Frank and Jean (Anderson) Otto, who preceded him in death.

On Oct. 17, 1980, in LaPorte County, he married Deborah Rogers, who survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Shannon (husband Stephen) Ulrick of Fort Wayne and Heather Otto (Brian Lewandowski) of Knox; a granddaughter, Baylee Layne Ulrick of Fort Wayne; and a brother, William Rankin Otto (Shari Decker) of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Carl retired in 2005 as general superintendent of Furnco Steel Company, having started work for Local 41 in 1969. He also attended Indiana University.

Carl was an avid reader and crossword puzzler, enjoyed gardening and traveling with his wife, and was a diehard Cubs fan. A devoted father and grandfather, he loved to spend time with his family.

Funeral services, Pastor Chris Newman-Jacobs officiating, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Chesterton First United Methodist Church, 432 S. Second St. Cremation will follow.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St. in Chesterton. Honorary pallbearer: Nelson Nellie Owen. Acting pallbearers: Jim Carrell, Ron Morey, Phil Dizonno, Tom Pancini, Curt Remus, and Tom Brown.

Memorials may be made to VNA Hospice or Chesterton First United Methodist Church.
