Service set for Sharon Kay Isaacs

Sharon Kay Isaacs of Valparaiso passed away Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009 at the Waters of Duneland in Chesterton. She was 72.

She survived by her husband of 50 years, Tom; sons Craig Isaacs (wife Mary) of Valparaiso and Scott Isaacs (Karen) of Toms River, N.J.; brother Don Hanrahan (Barb) of Savage, Minn.; grandchildren Oliver, Emily and Matthew; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Helen (Link) Hanrahan.

Born on May 18, 1937 in Valparaiso, Sharon was raised on Sunset Hill Farm. She was cheerleader at Liberty Township High School, where she graduated in 1955. She graduated in 1959 from the Ball State University College of Nursing.

Sharon loved hummingbirds, roses, gardening and helping children. She spent years as a school nurse for the Duneland School Corporation and retired as the school nurse for the East Porter County School Corporation. After her diagnosis in 1999, she agreed to be a participant in an experimental chemotherapy cancer treatment administered at Rush Hospital in Chicago. Her battle was brave and her love touched all that knew her. She will be missed.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe St., Valparaiso, with Pastor William Pershun officiating. Burial will be in Kimball Cemetery in Liberty Township. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bartholomew Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in her name to Visiting Nurses Association of Porter County, the Porter County Cancer Society or the Waters of Duneland.
