John Joseph Jamski dies at 75

John Joseph Jamski, age 75 of Portage, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2009 in Hobart.

He was born on June 19, 1933 in Gary, the son of Stanislaw and Amelia (May) Jamski, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was married to Delores Ferguson, who survives of Portage.

John is also survived by his children, Greg (Audrey) Mitchell of Portage, Valerie (Kelvin) Christian of Chesterton, Tom (Judith) Jamski of Wildwood, Mo., Laurie (John) Bowen of Portage, and Dee Ann (Ron) Krantz of Valparaiso; a brother, Theodore (Betty) Jamski of Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Richard Jamski; grandchildren, Kristina Bowen and James Bowen; two sisters; and three brothers.

John was a lifelong area resident. He worked as a steelworker at US Steel and was a member of the United Steelworkers Union. John was an avid White Sox fan and loved following sporting events involving his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted father and grandfather and his grandchildren were his life.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 11, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the NWI Downs Syndrome Association. www.EE-FH.com
