Beverly Shepard dies at 71

Beverly (nee Carpenter) Shepard, 71, of Porter, passed away July 19, 2009, at St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City, Indiana.

She was born in Michigan City, Ind. October 27, 1937, the daughter of Ralph and Gladys (Fuller) Carpenter, both of whom preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Leonard (Susan) Shields of Chesterton, and Jeffrey (Tracy) Shields of Porter, and a son-in-law, Craig Tilden of Porter. She is also survived by step-children Roy (Leslie) Shepard, David (Carol) Shepard, and Linda Wheatman all of Chesterton, and Tina Shepard of Culver, Ind. She is also survived by three sisters, Nancy (Bill) Green of Florida, Gerri Pliske of Burns Harbor, Mary (Jim) Brown of Texas, and a brother, Raymond Carpenter of Valparaiso; five grandsons, eight granddaughters, four great-grandsons, and 11 great-granddaughters.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Jack Shepard; daughter, Rhonda Tilden; step-son, Ronald Shepard, and sister, Ruth Walstra.

Beverly worked for the Chesterton Tribune for over 40 years and was an avid bowler in many leagues. She was a member of Duneland Community Church.

She loved reading and camping and enjoying time with family and friends. Beverly was a loving and devoted mother to her children, their friends, and the children of the neighborhood.

A memorial service, Pastor Greg Arthur, officiating, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 25 at Duneland Community Church, 1550 Pioneer Trail (former Pioneer Lumber building behind Wise Way Foods), Chesterton.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial donations may be given to family.

Arrangements were handled by Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home of Chesterton.
