Stephanie R. Kleist dies at 91

Stephanie R. Kleist, age 91, of Porter, IN, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 in Chesterton.

She was born January 6, 1917 in Chicago, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Henarski) Matusik, both of whom preceded her in death.

On May 12, 1934 in Valparaiso, she married Christian Kleist, who preceded her in death on February 18, 1986. 

Stephanie is survived by her daughter, Christine Trook of Porter; grandchildren, Holly Moore and Heather Burton; sister in law, Kay Matusik of Calumet City, Ill; great grandchildren, Tara Burton, Trisha Burton, Joy Moore and Harmony Burton and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by brothers, Edward, Frank and Henry Matusik; and sister, Helen Miko.

Stephanie formerly worked as a waitress, and during World War II worked at Carnegie Steel.  She was a former member of the Women of the Moose at the Chesterton Moose Lodge and enjoyed bingo and reading. 

Funeral services Rev. James Meade officiating, will be at noon Saturday, Nov. 22, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Interment will be Monday, Nov. 24 directly at Cedar Park Cemetery, 12540 S. Halsted St., Chicago.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at noon.
