Joseph Janiga dies at 71

Joseph Janiga of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, July 25, 2008 at home. He was 71.

He was born Jan. 17, 1937 in Hammond, the son of Stanley and Irene (Sasko) Janiga, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Gwendolyn (Muller), whom he married on Aug. 24, 1956 in Hammond.

He is also survived by two children, John (Jessie) Janiga of Valparaiso and Wendy (Mark) Kulczyk of Chesterton; grandchildren, Nathan (Senia) Janiga of St. Louis Park, Minn., Christi (Chris) Skaggs and Joseph Janiga, both of Mesa, Ariz., Katelyn and Kelley Kulczyk, Travis Hamilton and Lindsey Janiga, all of Chesterton and Anthony, Nicholas, and Alyson Janiga, all of Hammond; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Carter Janiga of Minn.; two brothers, Edward (Valerie) Janiga of Whiting and Michael (Mary) Janiga of Hammond and sister-in-law, Dianne (William) Warmus, of Bradenton, Fla. and her family.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph Timothy Janiga in 2007 and a sister, Patricia Ceperich.

Joseph attended Hammond High School and had worked in auto repair service at Shaever Pontiac in Hammond, and was co-owner of Hood Sales and Service in Hammond and owner of Expert Auto Service in Valparaiso. He was a member of South Side Christian Church in Munster and was a supportive husband, helping his wife attend college to become a teacher. He was also a blessing to his children and grandchildren by supporting all of their endeavors. He was an avid fan of Indy and NASCAR racing and enjoyed traveling and camping in his motor home. In addition, he enjoyed his TV remote and TiVo.

Funeral services, Pastor Bill McClure officiating, will be at Noon Tuesday, July 29 at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at Noon at Moeller Funeral Home.
