J. Hazel Hine dies at 96

J. Hazel Hine (nee Henry), of Joliet, formerly of Furnessville and the Chesterton area, died Monday, June 16, 2008. She was 96.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Miranda) Hine, of Syracuse, N.Y. and Dirk Hine, of Bloomington; one daughter, Janet (Douglas) McNabb, of Joliet; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Walker, Christina Hine-Reber, Kenneth Hine III, Annabel Hine, Oliver Hine, Mary Wilcox and Jennifer Casper; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alberta Coan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, twin sons at birth and a sister, Mildred Bearden.

Born in Beardstown, Ill., she lived in Indiana and Illinois, and in Joliet for the past six years. She was active in First Presbyterian Church of Michigan City and Westminister Presbyterian Church in Joliet. She lived for her family and church and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service, Rev. Nancy C. Kahaian officiating, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13 at First Presbyterian Church.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 13 from 1 p.m. until the service at the church, with interment of ashes in Furnessville Cemetery.

Carlisle Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Joliet Area Community Hospice, Westminster Presbyterian Church of Joliet or First Presbyterian Church of Michigan City.
