Edward A. Hanrahan dies at 76

Edward A. Hanrahan, of Valparaiso, passed away Monday, January 7, 2008 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus. He was 76.

He was born May 29, 1931 in Liberty Twp. the son of Wallace and Gladys (Keene) Hanrahan, both of whom preceded him in death.

On Dec. 1, 1951 at Augsburg EV Lutheran Church in Porter, he married Arvetta Matson, who survives in Valparaiso.

He is also survived by two daughters, Vicki (Paul) Arrasmith, of Morgan Twp. and Joni Cluver, of Valparaiso; four grandchildren, Jocelyn Cluver, Jill (Klay) Bechtold, Kathryn (Matt) Kardatzke and Rebekah Arrasmith and a sister, Deloris Weitzel, of Liberty Twp.

Ed was a member of Augsburg EV Lutheran Church, Porter. He was a member of the Church Council and on the Board of Augsburg Pre-K Program. He was an Elementary School Principal in Rensselaer, Indiana for 15 years and served as an Elementary School Principal in Bluffton, Ind. for 17 years, having retired in 1992. Ed was voted Citizen of the Year in Bluffton in 1992. He was a member of Farm Bureau, and also a member of Rotary International in both Rensselaer and Bluffton. He was also a member of Phi Delta Kappa.

Funeral services, Pastor Erik Bernth officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11 at Augsburg EV Lutheran Church, 100 N. Mineral Springs Rd., Porter. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton and Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service at Augsburg Lutheran Church.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to Augsburg EV Lutheran Church, or to Hilltop House in Valparaiso.
