Louis Vernocy dies at 90

Louis J. Vernocy, of Valparaiso, passed away May 1, 2007 at VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso. He was 90.

He was born June 21, 1916 in Oakmont, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Vernocy, Dec. 31, 1994.

He is survived by a daughter, Lois (Larry) Brandt, of Chesterton; a grandson, Timothy (Christine) Brandt of Porter; a great-grandson, Jonathan; two great-granddaughters, Marrin and Randi.

He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tracey Brandt.

Mr. Vernocy retired in 1968 after 28 years as a firefighter in East Chicago, Ind. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II.

A funeral service, Rev. Joseph Pawlowski officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2007 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Interment will be at St. Paul Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Thursday May 3, Wake service at 3:30 p.m., at Dykes Funeral Home, 2305 Campbell Rd., Valparaiso, IN 46385.
