Kenneth E. Callaway, Jr. dies at 70

Kenneth E. Callaway Jr., age 70, of Chesterton, passed away November 30, 2007.

He was born on Jan. 13, 1937 in Gary, the son of Kenneth E. and Ruth (Cupp) Callaway, both of who preceded him in death.

On October 18, 1955 he married Delores Axelson in Gary, who survives.

He is also survived by a son; Kenneth E. (Angie) Callaway III of Chesterton; daughters, Ruth (Randy) Nidelchoff of Chesterton, Susan (Casey Jr.) Rosiecki of Chesterton and Colleen (Daniel) Strauss of Sussex, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; Regan (Justin) Teets, Rachel (Kyle) Henry, Rebecca, Reann, Ryan, Gretchen (Jason) Thorne, Sarah, Casey III, Matthew, Matt, Jake, Olivia and Kenneth IV and one great grandchild, Riley Henry. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Callaway, Sr.

Ken was a loving husband, honored dad, wonderful papa as well as a great friend to many and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

He graduated from Emerson High School Class of 1955. He was a Captain with the Gary Fire Dept. for 25 years and then worked for Bethlehem Steel in Safety Repair for 30 years before retiring earlier this year. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America and the Gary Firefighters Union.

Funeral Services, Pastor Jane Aichdr officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 W. 1100 N., Chesterton. Interment will be in Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Visitation will also be on Wed. from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
