Katherine Nelson dies at 54

Katherine Nelson, of Liberty Twp., passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, Valparaiso. She was 54.

She was born July 16, 1952 in Gary, the daughter of Betty (Dixon) McCoy-Aderhold, who survives in Lowell with her husband Carl Aderhold, and Russell L. McCoy, who preceded her in death.

On Aug. 1, 1971 in Porter, She married Terry W. Nelson, who survives in Liberty Twp.

She is also survived by a son, Mitchel Nelson of Kayenta, Ariz.; two brothers, Douglas (Debbie) McCoy of Austin, Texas and Russell (Pauline) McCoy of LaPorte; a sister, Donna (Rory) Ketchem of Chesterton; seven nieces and nephews, four great-nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Katherine was a satellite manager for Jackson Elementary School. She was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church. She was a prolific writer and poet, who entertained and amused friends and family with her heart-felt and insightfully honest commentaries on others’ lives. She was a former member of Tri-Kappa Sorority and the Liberty Fire Department Auxiliary.

A funeral service, Rev. Erik Bernth officiating, will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home. Cremation will be at Heritage Crematory, Portage.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Wednesday until time of service at 7 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Memorials may be made to Janet Hyatte and Kathy Nelson Scholarship Fund in care of Lynnie Proper, Duneland School Food Service.
