Irene J. Politano, of Chesterton, passed away Friday, Aug. 31, 2007 at her
home. She was 93.
She was born June 7, 1914 in Blairsville, Pa., the daughter of John and Marie
(Caruso) California, both of whom preceded her in death.
On Aug. 11, 1930 in Salina, Pa., she married Joseph Politano, who preceded
her in death Jan. 1, 1978.
She is survived by a son, Robert (Joan) Politano, of Chesterton; a
daughter-in-law-Katherine Politano, of Valparaiso; 14 grandchildren, Mary
(Bill) Branham of Chesterton and Joseph Politano of Porter, Dennis
(Jeanie) Aloia, of Traverse City, Mich., Garry (Marge) Aloia, of Crown Point,
Michael (Valerie) Aloia of Crown Point, Larry Aloia, of Indianapolis, Mark
(Jill) Aloia, of Boulder, Co., Lynn (Phil) Gralik, of Valparaiso, Tony
(Laurie) Politano of Valparaiso, Barbara (fiancé Bill Poparad) Eppolito, of
Porter and Robert Politano Jr., of Chesterton, William Politano, of
Chesterton, Kathleen (Mark) Jennings, of Springfield, Va., Patricia (Brad)
Decker, of Porter; 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren
and a brother, Tony (Louise) California, of Apollo, Pa.
She was also preceded in death by daughters, Kathaline Politano and Angeline
Aloia and a son, Frank Politano; brothers, Marshall, James, John and Frank
and sisters, Antoinette, Mary, Josephine and her twin sister, Helen.
Irene was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother.
A Mass of Christian Burial, Fr. Terry Bennis officiating, will be offered at
11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 648 N. Calumet
Rd., Chesterton. Entombment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4 at White-Love
Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.
Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to the Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County
Hospice Program.
