Gay Wiebe dies at 68

Gay Wiebe, of Chesterton, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2007 at her residence. She was 68.

She was born on Aug. 21, 1939 in Fort Wayne, the daughter of the late Garold F. and Helen (Carman) Babcoke.

On June 3, 1961 in Madison, Wis., she married James Wiebe, her husband of 46 years, who survives in Chesterton.

She is also survived by sons, Thomas (Kim) Wiebe of Wheaton, Ill., Stephen (Karen) Wiebe of Chicago; a brother, Dr. Gary Babcoke of Ogden Dunes; brothers-in-law, Roger Wiebe and Donald Wiebe of Madison, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Thomas of Springfield, S.D., Cheryl Leiferman of Salt Lake City, Utah and Karen Wiebe of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Adam and Justin Wiebe and Lauren and Ashlyn Wiebe; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Robert Wiebe.

Gay was a graduate of Madison Heights High School Class of 1957. While in high school Gay was a cheerleader and past honored queen of Job’s Daughters. She attended Hanover, Edgewood and St. Mary of the Woods Colleges. Locally she worked and obtained an advanced teaching license to work with the learning disabled, specifically children, so that she could work with her niece’s son. She also worked with her sons in their music production business.

Funeral services, Rev. Jane Aicher officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 W. Co. Rd. 1100 N., Chesterton.

Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund.
