Chesterton resident Emma Schmitt died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at her home surrounded by her family. She was 80.

Born in Gary on Feb. 14, 1927, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Krininger) Moser. She married Marvin “Dutch” Schmitt on August 30, 1947 at Holy Angels Cathedral in Gary.

She is survived by daughter, Cheryl Huseman (husband Paul) of Chesterton; brother Ernie Moser (wife Phyllis) of Lowell; sister, Edith Elsmere (John) of Portage; grandchildren Jacob, Joel and Jessica Huseman, all of Chesterton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Moser, and sisters Mary Bochart and Josie Gropp.

She retired from Wise Way Foods in 1990 as a bookkeeper after 47 years. After retirement she worked at Wal Mart. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and served on the hospitality committee. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, camping and being with her family. She enjoyed 56 years of marriage with her husband and will be sadly missed by her loving family and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton, with Father James Meade officiating. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery in Chesterton. Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 30, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. A Rosary service will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Memorials may be made in the form of masses to St. Patrick Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton, or the Building Fund at St. Patrick Church.
