Claudia L. Herbst dies at 80

Claudia L. Herbst, of Chesterton, passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 at LaPorte Hospital, LaPorte. She was 80.

She was born July 6, 1927 in Liberty Twp., the daughter of John Olander and Lulu (Moore) Johnson, both of whom preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her husband Alton Herbst in 1990.

She is survived by three children, Diana Herbst of Knox, Patsy L. (Arthur) Hill of LaPorte and Alton Jeffrey (Dana) Herbst of Chesterton; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Conners of Calif. and Annabelle Cole of Valparaiso.

She was also preceded in death by sisters, Anna Henry, Hilda Chellberg, Madeline Johnson and Sylvia Poparad.

Claudia was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Chesterton, W.E.L.C.A. and Esther Circle of the Church. She was a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels for 20 years; a member of the Senior Citizens Group in Chesterton and a member of Pythian Sisters.

Funeral services, Pastor Erik Bernth officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2007 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church 1050 W 1100N, Chesterton. Interment will be in Hanna Cemetery, Hanna.

The family will receive friends from 2-7 p.m. Sunday at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton and Monday from 9 a.m. until time of service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be given to Meals-on-Wheels, the Westchester Food Pantry, or to W.E.L.C.A. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
