INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Think you’ve got an Indiana ancestor who served in the
Civil War?
A new database allows people to search records of individual soldiers who
fought in the 1860s war. The Indiana Civil War Soldiers Database includes
more than 200,000 records compiled by the Indiana State Archives and
volunteers.
Records include basic information about a soldier’s age, military dates,
location and other information. Some soldier records may also include notes
about military ranks, desertion information or punishments.
State Archivist Jim Corridan says the database is a new resource that lets
people instantly access records from their homes, saving time and money.
