After deadline on
Monday, the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) reported 5,050 new
COVID-19 cases (6,025 new cases on Sunday), to bring the total so far to
ISDH also reported
35 additional deaths on Monday (37 on Sunday), to bring the total to date to
moving average for per-day COVID-19 deaths on Monday was 55 (62 on Sunday).
The seven-day moving average of 70 per-day deaths on Thursday, Dec. 10, is
the highest ever recorded during the pandemic. The highest recorded during
the initial surge was 42 on April 27.
reported 3,072 hospitalizations on Monday (3,108 on Sunday).
According to ISDH,
the most hospitalizations on any given day during the initial surge of the
pandemic was 1,799, on April 13.
The number of
per-day hospitalizations statewide has been generally declining since the
record-high of 3,460 reported on Nov. 30, even as the number of per-day
deaths has been generally rising.
On Monday ISDH
reported a 23.6 percent availability of ICU beds statewide (22.0 percent on
Sunday). COVID bed use on Sunday was 40.4 percent (40.8 percent on Sunday).
Non-COVID bed use on Sunday was 35.9 percent (37.2 percent on Sunday).
On Monday, Marion
County reported 58,931 cases and 973 deaths (58,091 and 962 on Sunday), the
most in the state in both categories. Lake County reported 35,098 cases and
530 deaths (34,758 and 527), the second most in the state in both
categories. LaPorte County reported 6,182 cases and 116 deaths (6,127 and
On Monday, ISDH
reported 2,393 new student cases statewide (16,383 total); 413 new teacher
cases (3,404 total); and 615 new staff cases (4,118 total).
As of Monday, 193
schools had reported no cases; 1,863 had reported one or more cases; and 312
schools had submitted no report at all.
