State COVID19 cases top 10,000; deaths top 500

The Indiana State Department of Health was reporting this morning 642 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, for a total of 10,154, up from 9,542 on Thursday.

The 642 new cases represent an increase of 7 percent over the previous 24 hours.

ISDH also reported 42 additional deaths, for a total of 519, up from 477 on Thursday, an increase of 9 percent over the previous 24 hours. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.

Meanwhile, 54,785 tests have been reported to date to ISDH, up from 51,115 on Thursday. Tests are being conducted by ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and private laboratories.

Tests in Marion County: 17,571. In Porter County: 1,134. In Lake County: 4,739. In LaPorte County: 749.

Marion County has the most reported cases, 3,518 (3,320 on Thursday); and the most deaths, 182 (164). Lake County has reported 1,026 cases (972) and 42 deaths (41), the second highest in the state in both categories. LaPorte County has reported 129 cases (112) and five deaths (five).

Other COVID-19 information:

-- Current available ICU bed capacity of the 2,960 in the state: 46.6 percent; 21.9 percent in use for COVID-19; 31.4 percent in use for non-COVID-19.

-- Age distribution: 50-59, 19.8 percent; 40-49, 14 percent; 60-69, 16.5 percent; 30-39, 13.9 percent; 70-79, 10.7 percent; 20-29, 10.7 percent; 80+, 9.7 percent; and 0-19, 1.8 percent.

-- Gender: female, 54.3 percent; male, 44.4 percent.

-- By race: white, 50.1 percent (85.1 percent of state’s population); black, 17.6 percent (9.8 percent of population); other, 12.8 percent (2.6 of population); Asian, 0.8 percent (2.5 percent of population); and unknown, 18.7 percent.
