New COVID cases down in county, likely the result of testing sites closed during the holidays

On Monday, the Porter County Health Department reported 96 new COVID-19 cases over the previous 24 hours (36 new cases on Sunday), to bring the total so far to 12,526.

PCHD repeated its caution, first issued on Sunday, that the precipitous drop in new cases over the last few days is most likely the result of most testing sites being closed over the Christmas weekend, and “should not be considered as a true indicator of community spread.”

As of Sunday, PCHD was putting the  0-19 demographic at 1.7K cases; the 20-29 at 2.2K; the 30-39 at 1.9K; the 40-49 at 2K; the 50-59 at 1.9K; and the 60-69 at 1.4K.

The other demographic totals as of Sunday: 70-79, 751 cases (746 on Sunday); 80-89, 403 cases (403); and 90-and-over, 159 (159).
