New Porter County COVID cases: 177

On Monday, the Porter County Health Department (PCHD) reported 177 new COVID-19 cases over the previous 24 hours (84 new cases on Sunday), to bring the total so far to 8,853.

As of Monday, PCHD was putting the 0-19 age group at 1.2K cases; the 20-29 at 1.5K; the 30-39 at 1.4K; the 40-49 at 1.4K; and the 50-59 at 1.4K.

The other age group totals as of Monday: 60-69, 996 cases (976 on Sunday); 70-79, 536 cases (523); 80-89, 265 cases (260); and 90-and-over, 113 (113).

Deaths

No additional deaths were reported on Monday.

To date, 103 Porter County residents have lost their lives to COVID-19. In the 31 days since Oct. 30, 47 residents have died.

Hospitalizations

Meanwhile, PCHD reported 45 hospitalizations on Monday, unchanged from Sunday.

Prior to Nov. 3, no more than 28 COVID-19 patients had ever been hospitalized at one time: on May 20, half a year ago.

Of Monday’s hospitalizations, nine were residents of long term care facilities (LTCFs).

Nursing homes

No new COVID-19 cases were reported on Monday in nursing homes, to leave the total number of nursing home cases reported so far unchanged: 413.

Of those 413 nursing home cases, nine were hospitalized on Sunday, down from 10 on Saturday; 269 have recovered, up from 237 on Sunday; and 57 have died, unchanged from Sunday.

As of Monday there were 87 active COVID-19 cases in Porter County nursing homes, down from 119 on Sunday.

Over the first six months of the pandemic--from March 17, when PCHD first started tracking COVID-19 numbers, to Oct. 16--a total of 119 cases was reported by nursing homes. In the 45 days since Oct. 16 that number has grown by fully 294 new cases, or 247 percent.

Active Cases

PCHD reported 7,190 recoveries on Monday, up from 5,861 on Sunday.

Total active cases in Porter County as of Monday, after subtracting the 7,190 recoveries and 103 deaths: 1,560, up from 2,712 on Sunday.

Other Indicators

-- New cases per 100,000 residents as of Monday: 597 (620 on Sunday; 730 on Nov. 23).

-- Unique-individual positivity rate as of Nov. 22: 20.6 percent (21.9 percent on Nov. 21; 26.2 percent on Nov. 15).

-- Total-test positivity rate as of Nov. 22: 13 percent (13.1 percent on Nov. 21; 13.7 percent on Nov. 15). Note: both positivity rates lag up to eight days due to Indiana State Department of Health reporting methods.

Duneland Cases

-- Westchester: 1,033 cases (1,020 on Sunday). Active cases: 144 (286 on Sunday).

-- Liberty: 524 cases (494). Active cases: 83 (116).

-- Jackson: 188 cases (170). Active cases: 39 (59).

-- Pine: 46 cases (40). Active cases: 13 (16).

Other Townships

-- Portage: 2,810 cases (2,748 on Sunday). Active cases: 474 (860 on Sunday).

-- Center: 2,533 (2,491). Active cases: 467 (656).

-- Washington: 296 cases (278). Active cases: 55 (79).

-- Union: 476 cases (442). Active cases: 66 (100).
