Indiana virus case total tops 80,000

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting this morning 2,449 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 72 hours (1,079 new cases on Friday), to bring the total so far to 81,006, up from 78,632 on Friday.

ISDH was also reporting 26 additional COVID-19 deaths over the last 72 hours (eight additional deaths on Friday), to bring the total to date to 3,147 up from 3,121 on Friday.

Marion County has the most reported cases, 16,706 (16,4327 on Friday); and the most deaths, 735 (734). Lake County has reported 8,171 cases (7,952) and 284 deaths (283), the second highest in the state in both categories. LaPorte County has reported 1,010 cases and 30 deaths (967 and 30).

The total COVID-19 death count includes both confirmed and presumptive deaths to date. Presumptive deaths are those for which x-ray, scans, and clinical symptoms all point to COVID-19 but for which no positive test is on record. A total of 209 presumptive deaths was reported today, up from 207 on Friday.
