Voice of the People
On Friday, Feb. 22, I received another South Shore Commuter Rail poster
with the purpose of educating the people of Northwest Indiana to all the
benefits that it would bring to our community. How can “Growth” not bring
urban sprawl, less traffic, less pollution and no higher taxes? Schools,
roads and services all cost money.
On Friday, Feb. 15, Doug Ross in The Times, called us who oppose this
development, “narrow-minded people”. In The Times Feb. 24 issue, Jon Costas
called those who oppose the South Shore Expansion, a “No” man. It may be that
some of us see a different picture, less sprawl, more open space, not rising
taxes. It might be possible that we want to leave our children something
different than cities.
If this expansion is so great and important, put it to the vote of the
citizens of this area. I would honor that choice, not someone trying to force
feed this endeavor.
