Don't blame Dogwood Estates for Chesterton's fireworks failure

Voice of the People

On July 2, an article on the front page of the Chesterton Tribune stated: “Chesterton will be without fireworks this year due to housing development on the near west side of Dogwood Park.”

We find this interesting. Our subdivision, Dogwood Estates, has been here since 2004, and homes bordering the park were fully constructed and occupied during 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. We all watched the beautiful fireworks from our porches and decks in 2005 and 2006. So how can we now be to blame?

If the alignment of the newly constructed roads and parking spaces at Dogwood Park make it impossible to hold the festival there, so be it. But please don’t blame our subdivision. We love our neighborhood, we love our town, and we also loved the now-cancelled festival.

Sincerely,

Dogwood Estates Homeowners Association
