Voice of the People
An open letter to all Porter residents:
Four years ago, you elected me and five other Republicans to serve as the
governing body for Porter. For me, to be chosen by you has been very
rewarding. Together, we have accomplished so much.
You will remember, upon taking office, we inherited a half million dollar
deficit. This fact was reinforced by a 61 page State Audit of our town. Under
Carol Pomeroy’s leadership, and the hard work of the council and department
heads, we were able to turn that around. In fact, if projected funds come in
this year as anticipated, we will end up with a sizable surplus for our town.
We have authorized the increase in funding of both Police and Fire
protection. Soon, all of our Town ordinances will be available to every
citizen in a searchable format on the internet. We now have an assemblage and
open container ordinance protecting our homeowners and citizens. This
administration has vastly improved a declining infrastructure with newly
paved streets and upgraded storm water and sewer systems. As you know, this
year we have not received property tax revenue from the county. Still we have
managed, through controlled spending, to get through this crisis without
borrowing from sources outside of our own town government. We are one of the
few communities to do so. Space would not permit me to continue to list the
accomplishments I believe this administration has achieved. It has been an
exciting time for us and our town, and I am writing this to thank you for the
opportunity to serve.
We are now coming upon another election. Porter is on the verge of something
very special. We can continue to move forward and realize this community’s
potential, or we can return to that time of out of control spending and Town
mismanagement. I am urging you to support another four years of Republican
results.
