Reform or Power grab?
When I read the Local Government Reform Report I checked my driver’s license
to see if I still lived in America where people are represented by elected
government. The report says it wants to do away with a thousand or so elected
positions. Indiana is in America not North Korea or Iran where the anointed
are appointed to promote the interest of the state.
I agree we need to find new ways for government and schools to control
spending, Unfortunately, this plan will simply eliminate elected positions
and replace them with government appointees.
This plan comes from people who believe government should be run like a
corporation with a CEO having total power to run things from the top. The
American constitution says the power comes from the people up. Myself I’ll
trust the people over a corporation anytime. Do not give up your right to
elect your local government officials.
In many townships like Union Township for example the Township Board is there
only form of local representative government. Under the new system will
non-residents get appointed to represent these people.
Local elected government is the backbone of America. Real reform can only
happen with your involvement in government and the power of your vote.
